About the Instrument
This cello has a deep, sonorous lower register as well as a clear and beautiful A-string. Simultaneously nimble and with a complex timbre, it is an excellent choice for both solo and group playing. Its apricot varnish is applied over a golden ground, bringing out the dynamic tiger figure that slants upward from the center joint on its two-piece maple back. Similar flames run along the ribs and scroll. It has distinctive ebony and mahogany pegs.

About the Maker
David Wiebe (1950- ) was born in Beatrice, Nebraska and initially trained as a Double Bass player. After refinishing his own bass in high school, Wiebe developed an interest in instrument making and eventually left for Mittenwald, Germany to study at the Staatliche Fachschule fĆ¼r Geigenbau under Alois Hornsteiner. Upon the completion of his training, Wiebe returned to his hometown of Beatrice and opened a shop for instrument repair, eventually beginning to make instruments of his own. Eventually, he moved his shop to David City, Nebraska, working out of his home, where he remained for almost three decades. Over the years, Wiebe attended the Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop to expand his knowledge of instrument making and restoration. At Oberlin, Wiebe met his wife, the bowmaker Susan Lipkins, and moved to Woodstock, New York in 2002 where they share a workshop.
