About the Instrument
This cello has a gorgeous, soulful timbre. Nimble and clear, it is a wonderful instrument for both solo and group playing. Based on a G. Guarneri model, the lustrous umber varnish is applied over a lighter ground, bringing out the uniquely lively flame figure on its poplar back. A similar wood is used for its ribs and scroll.Ā
Interior label reads: āāAmerigo Vespucciāā / Paulus Vettori filius Darii / Fecit Florentiae A.D. 2023ā and bears the makerās signature. The makerās brand is just above, as is an inscription on the interior of the back plate, which reads: āModello G. Guarneri Filios Andres Cremonaā

About the Maker
Paolo Vettori (1945- ) was born in Firenzuola, Italy in aftermath of bombings that leveled the city during World War II. Vettori learned violin making from his father, the master luthier Dario Vettori. It was through the elder Vettori that Paolo connected with Carlo Bisiach, from whose models Vettori would draw inspiration and learn close-kept varnish formulas. Upon the death of their father in 1973, Vettori and his brother Carlo took over the family shop. Later that same decade, Vettori opened his own atelier in Florence. Over the years, he developed and deepened his knowledge of the craft, making his instruments highly sought-out by players around the world. Vettori has crafted over 300 throughout this career.
The Vettori family is now in its third generation of luthiers, with Vettoriās two sons and daughter all esteemed luthiers. Approaching a century of instrument making, the Vettoris hold the longest legacy of uninterrupted luthier family members in Italy.
